Hit by car, traffic policeman clings to bonnet to save his life

NEW DELHI: A 56-year-old assistant sub-inspector of the visitors police had a harrowing revel in when a taxi driver tried to run him down. His presence of mind in leaping on the bonnet of the cab stored his existence, however he injured his hands as he desperately hung on when the automobile raced away on the busy freeway.
Senior law enforcement officials stated that the incident came about on Thursday afternoon close to a luxury hotel in Mahipalpur in southwest Delhi. ASI Rajender Singh used to be posted there with a head constable to control the visitors. At 1.30pm, Singh noticed a white Maruti Ertiga with the registration number HR74A 9612 idling on NH8 making an attempt to pick up passengers. The vehicle used to be making a visitors jam, and Singh signalled to the motive force to park his car at the side of the road and to turn his documents.

“I waved to the taxi driver to return out of the vehicle. The driver did transfer the automobile from the spot slowly, however abruptly speeded up because it approached me,” Singh stated. Reacting temporarily, the police officer jumped as the automobile hit him. The transfer stored him from being mowed down and he landed on the bonnet of the automobile.


“I grabbed the wipers of the automobile and held on, but the driver didn’t prevent his car,” Singh stated. With the cop on the bonnet, the cabbie drove into the heavy visitors, ignoring all alerts of people around to stop the automobile. Soon after Singh’s colleague began chasing the cab, the Ertiga used to be pressured to stop in a visitors jam.


Singh alighted from the bonnet, his hands uncooked from holding on to the wipers. He used to be taken to a nearby Vasant Kunj health facility for remedy. Wahid, the errant driver, used to be arrested for obstructing a public servant within the discharge of public serve as, for inflicting hurt to deter a public servant from his duty and for the use of felony pressure to deter a public servant from discharging his tasks.


Wahid is a resident of Raipuri village in Haryana’s Mewat district. He instructed the police officers that he used to be looking for passengers headed to Gurgaon. Police stated the motive force’s blood pattern used to be collected for checks to look if he used to be riding below the affect on the time of the incident. His vehicle used to be impounded.
