2 killed in clashes at Tamil Nadu temple fest

TRICHY: A simmering dispute between two groups over keep watch over of a crematorium resulted in clashes on Monday evening leaving two other people lifeless and five others severely injured near Pattukottai in Thanjavur district. A powerful posse of police has been deployed on the village.
According to the police, there have been a scuffle between two communities for taking keep watch over of the crematorium, which was once just lately shifted to the outskirts of the village.

Earlier, the graveyard remained reverse the Balasubramania Swami temple located in the centre of the village. Based on a grievance, revenue officers had held talks with each communities a month ago and settled the issue. However, the issue persisted to smoulder. Meanwhile, villagers decided to have a good time Chithirai competition on the temple on Sunday . The temple automobile procession was once scheduled to be held on Monday evening. When the car was once getting ready for the procession, each groups started to assault every other.

Five injured individuals are undergoing treatment

The deceased have been known as B Sivanesan, 18, a first-year engineering student at a non-public school in Thanjavur, and S Pradeep, 30, who was once about to go away for a gulf nation to take up employment, each residents of Manjavayal village.


Those injured have been Pradeep’s father M Shamugasundaram, 60, brother S Vimalathithan, 26, and their kinfolk D Veerabaghu, 20, M Kabilan, 28, and D Rajesh Kannan, 33, who are undergoing treatment at Government Medical College Hospital Thanjavur.


In the incident, Sivanesan and Pradeep sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot whilst the opposite five have been severely injured. All of them have been rushed to the clinical school health center for treatment.


District collector A Annadhurai, inspector common of police for central zone, V Varadharaju, DIG Loganathan and superintendent of police T Senthilkumar rushed to the spot to carry inquiries with the villagers. The automobile procession was once held in the morning in their presence. Thiruvidaimaruthur police registered a case and are investigating.
