DEVIPATNAM: Around 40 people are feared drowned after a boat capsized because of robust winds in the Godavari River on Tuesday night. Twelve, together with two ladies and a child, swam to protection. The boat was wearing them from Kondamodalu in West Godavari district to Polavaram.
Twenty boats, knowledgeable swimmers and NDRF groups have swung into motion straight away to track the missing other folks. The rescue operation is on in the river in pitch-dark situation. Poor light is hampering the rescue paintings.
Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed the district authorities to take all necessary steps to rescue the missing other folks.
The mishap took place near Manturu, 18 km from the mandal headquarters of Devipatnam, round 6pm.
According to those that swam to protection, there have been about 55 passengers, most commonly tribals, at the boat. They complained that the operator did not heed their pleas to forestall the boat at the same time as robust winds had been blowing.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday night time expressed anguish over the boat tragedy and prayed for the secure return of those missing.
“Anguished by the capsizing of a boat in Andhra Pradesh's East Godavari district. Condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the security of those missing,” he tweeted.
