Banks may see two-day strike in May-end

NEW DELHI: Bank workers might opt for a two-days strike within the later part of May. The 48-hour strike through nearly 10 lakh bankers, govt as well as private,is at the cards if through the tip of May, govt does now not ask the Indian Banks' Association (IBA) to supply an progressed offer.

The All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) General Secretary C H Venkatachalam said, "If the Finance Ministry does not intervene to make the IBA to make their improved offer, it has been decided to call for a 48-hour continuous strike by end of this month."

"It is a matter of shame that while thousands of crores of rupees are written off from profits towards bad loans of big corporates, the genuine demands of bank employees are being denied in this fashion," he added.

A speak about wage revision between United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) and IBA from various banks used to be held in Mumbai on Saturday and led to a failure. UFBU is a mum or dad frame of the bank unions, similar to All India Bank Officers' Confederation (AIBOC), National Confederation of Bank Employees (NCBE), All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA) and Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI).

Venkatachalam said the IBA offered an build up of 2 per cent over the full wage bill of the banks as on March 31, 2017. In the remaining 10th Bipartite Wage Settlement that used to be made efficient from November 1, 2012, IBA had agreed for a hike of 15 per cent build up over the full wage bill.

The unions rejected the IBA offer of 2 per cent hike, Venkatachalam said. Wage revision for bankers has been pending since November 1, 2017, after the previous agreement expired on October 31, 2017.

The total of non-performing belongings (NPAs) or unhealthy loans price Rs. 9.five lakh crore as of end-2017 have been with the country's state-run banks. The new stringent rules enforced through the Reserve Bank of India in February are set to push the business's non-performing loans even upper.
