COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation, along side environmental organisations, on Monday launched 'Project Sparrow' within the city. The initiative aimed at hanging 3,000 'sparrow nest-boxes' (chicken properties for sparrows) across the city in round two years. These boxes will probably be positioned in company places of work, colleges, bus stands and different puts, stated organisers of the venture.
The nest-boxes have been designed in response to the regulations of British Ornithological Society, stated Vinny R Peter of Centre for Urban Biodiversity Conservation and Education (Cube), which has been involved within the venture. "There are several kinds of nest-boxes. But we have made these boxes for sparrows in line with the regulations based on a research by the British Ornithological Society," she stated and added that the boxes have been made to dimensions the place best sparrows can inhabit the box. Or else birds equivalent to babblers would occupy them," she said. Conservationists said the opening of a sparrow nest-box should be 32mm. "If it is small the sparrow can not get in.
