COIMBATORE: A 26-year-old police constable hooked up to the Tamil Nadu Special Police (TSP) at Kovaipudur and his buddy had been caught by means of the public and passed over to the police on Monday after he extorted money from traffic violators.
He used to be identified as D Balakumar, a local of Sempatti village in Madurai and working as a grade-II police constable on the fourth battalion (TSP) at Kovaipudur. “He used to be staying in a rented room in Sulur. On Monday night, Balakumar, along with his buddy Prabhu from Sulur, stopped four automobile users on Ravuthur-Sulur Road and collected Rs 500 from them for not dressed in helmets and not possession legitimate paperwork. He used to be dressed in khaki pants and a white blouse. Local citizens, who became suspicious of Balakumar’s actions, wondered him. He advised them that he used to be hooked up to the Singanallur police station. But the locals detained Balakumar and Prabhu, and knowledgeable Singanallur police sub-inspector Arjun about the incident. The duo used to be later passed over to the police,” a senior police officer said.
“We warned Prabhu and passed over Balakumar to TSP officials. We will put up a report about Balakumar’s actions ahead of the fourth battalion commandant at Kovaipudur and in line with the report, departmental motion can be taken against him,” the officer added.
