Couple thrashed for 'intimacy' on Kolkata Metro

KOLKATA: In a stunning incident of 'moral policing', a tender couple travelling on the Kolkata Metro had been reportedly harassed and thrashed by some of their co-passengers for "being too close" when they boarded a train overdue on Monday evening.

It all started after some elderly co-passengers objected to their "intimacy in public", leading to a heated argument.

The young couple used to be reportedly bombarded with embarrassing questions followed by punches, kicks and slaps inside of a station after they deboarded the train.

"Unfortunately, no complaint has been lodged as yet and this makes it very difficult to conduct an inquiry," Kolkata Metro Railway CPRO Indrani Banerjee said, adding that the Metro used to be "against moral policing".

The CCTV pictures within the station did not file any incident of an attack, she claimed, despite the fact that videos of the beating, which were shot by eyewitnesses, have since long gone viral everywhere the social media.

Protests had been held outdoor the Dum Dum Metro station on Tuesday against the incident. "A young couple embraced in Kolkata Metro. It made a bunch of frustrated old losers angry. They beat them up. Scenes of hatred are allowed. Scenes of love are considered obscene," author Tasleema Nasreen tweeted.
