Kasauli Town planner killing: Supreme Court pulls up Himachal government

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court (SC) these days, of its personal accord, took notice of the reviews about an assistant town planner killed + allegedly by a lodge owner in Kasauli in Himachal Pradesh, and also pulled up the state government for now not offering ok safety to officers carrying out demolition paintings.

Trouble started once Bala and other officers reached Mando Matkanda near Dharampur to demolish unauthorised parts of the guesthouse. Singh and his mom, Narayani Devi (70), started resisting the officers and were given into an issue with Bala. When the crew didn't pay attention to the duo, Singh fired at them.


"While Shail Bala was murdered, Gulab Singh, a PWD employee, was injured," Shimla SP Khushal Sharma stated. Chief minister Jai Ram Thakur stated the accused could be nabbed quickly.


A report by the police stated they have been at an adjoining lodge overseeing demolition as they expected trouble there. They heard gunshots from Narayani Guest House. By the time they reached there, Bala had already been shot and the accused had escaped, stated Khushal Sharma, superintendent of police, Shimla.


The SC had directed the Himachal Pradesh government on April 17 to demolish unauthorised constructions at a number of lodges in Kasauli. It rejected the appeal of hoteliers towards a National Green Tribunal (NGT) order. In its order on May 30 last 12 months, the NGT had noticed that the owner of Narayani Guest House had constructed a six-storey development whilst he had popularity of best three storeys and a parking flooring.
