Facing huge distress over water supply, Haryana tells SC

NEW DELHI: Haryana executive on Tuesday told the Supreme Court that it was once going through a "huge distress" for water as it's been receiving best half the provision from the Hathni Kund barrage situated in the Yamunanagar district.

Haryana's counsel, on the other hand, stated the state would proceed supplying 150 cusecs of water to Delhi until May 15.

"We are receiving only 50% water from the Hathni barrage. There is a huge distress of water level in Haryana," the counsel told the bench.

The bench was once also informed that a assembly of the manager secretaries of Delhi and Haryana and secretary of the ministry of water assets was once held on April 23 and its minutes has been put on record.

On April 23, the apex court docket had asked chief secretaries of Delhi and Haryana and secretary of the ministry of water assets to hold a meeting in an instant to talk about and sort out the issues on the subject of supply of Yamuna river water to the national capital.

Delhi had earlier stated that there was once a shortfall of 120 cusecs of water of Yamuna river day-to-day for the national capital.


The court docket was once listening to a plea filed by means of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) alleging that Haryana had decreased by means of one-third the provision of Yamuna water to the national capital, leading to a grave water disaster.


The DJB had contended that Haryana was once supplying Delhi best 330 cusecs of water day-to-day as towards 450 cusecs per day, which was once agreed upon between the state and the Union Territory. Due to the curtailment in water supply to the Wazirabad reservoir, the plant was once working at decreased capability leading to a "grave water crisis" in the city.
