Kolkata: Discomfort index shoots up

KOLKATA: In the absence of thundershower for more than every week now, the town continues to reel beneath warmth and humidity. Though the maximum temperature at 36.1 degree Celsius on Wednesday was just a notch above the traditional mark, it was a high discomfort index that made weather intolerable.

Discomfort index is the impact of warmth tension on a person. It is calculated making an allowance for the combined impact of temperature and humidity. On Wednesday, it stood as high as 66. According to weather scientist the traditional discomfort index round this time should be 55. Once it crosses this mark its tension turns into tricky for other folks.


“We be expecting thundershower actions on Thursday and Friday. But the humidity will nonetheless remain high because the rain quantity will not be a lot and in addition such thundershower will happen towards the afternoon,” mentioned GK Das, director (weather) at Regional meteorological Centre Kolkata.
