Mom saves girl from leopard's jaws

COIMBATORE: How some distance will you cross to avoid wasting any individual you like? When a leopard pounced on her 10-year-old daughter and tried to tug her into the close by wooded area on Friday night time, a 30-year-old unmarried mom in Valparai did not hesitate to interfere.
Armed with just a wooden log, she faced the massive cat. A just right thrashing from the fierce mom despatched the animal back to the wooded area, tail between its legs and leaving the injured lady at the back of.

I Muthulakhsmi, a tea-leaf picker employed on the Tan Tea estate at Periyakallar fourth division of Valparai, was once busy cutting picket at the backyard of her team of workers quarters around 7pm when the incident took place.

Her 10-year-old daughter, I Sathya, was once serving to her. Muthulakhsmi had separated from her husband Iyapparaj a few months ago and was once taking care of her daughter alone. The mother-daughter team was once running arduous to collect firewood to cook dinner a humble dinner, when a leopard attacked Sathya.

The surprised mom watched helplessly because the animal sank its sharp enamel into Sathya's neck and began to tug her into the wooded area. But within seconds, her maternal instinct kicked in and Muthulakshmi hit the animal with a work of firewood she had just chopped. Taken aback via the sudden attack, the leopard dropped the girl and scooted off to the wooded area.


The minor lady, who suffered accidents at the cheek and neck, was once rushed to a central authority clinic in Valparai the place she received first support. She is claimed to be in a stable situation in the Pollachi Government Hospital the place she is present process remedy.


Meanwhile range officer of Valparai wooded area range RG Sekar lauded Muthulakshmi for the courageous act. "Tan Tea estate is located near the reserve forest area. Several estate workers are staying in the staff quarters. We request the workers not to let their children out after 6pm," he stated.


The wooded area division had recommended tea estate workers not to rear goats, sheep or dogs, Sekar advised TOI. "As these animals are easy prey, leopards are attracted to the staff quarters."
