SECUNDERABAD: In a damning report to the ministry of defence (MoD), the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) and the Defence Estates Office (DEO) have gone the extra mileto pointoutthe violationsby the Local Military Authority (LMA) in ultimate down the civilian roads, thereby making commuting tricky for lakhs of other people. Though 4 roads at the moment are free for use for civilians at night time, the overall refrain amongst residents is: All the civilians roads must be made to be had to commuters with out a restrictions in any respect.

A-1 land is categorized as ‘underneath active occupation of Army.’ Gough Road, which the LMA has proposed to close permanently from June 1, also comes underneath this classification. Out of the 15 civilian roads, 10 roads were labeled as A-1 defence land and the rest 5 are labeled as ‘C’ (Cantonment Board land for use) land.
LMA did not adhere to the provisions of the Act in making the roads out of bounds for the commuters, identified the record. “We have clearly discussed names of the roads that had been closed, survey nos. as per common land records (GLRs), classification of the roads, whether or not the roads werebeing usedby civiliansor not, whether or not the roads had been open to vehicular site visitors,whether or not the road falls inside the unit strains, etc,” a senior respectable advised TOI. The record also had information about road closure timings effected by LMA.
A key MoD letter (dated January 7, 2015) addressed to the CEO of SCB on reopening all of the civilian roads outdoor the unit strains clearly asks him to position the letter before a complete Cantonment Board however this used to be by no means completed in the final 4 years,sourcessaid.The record also explained how section 258 of Cantonments Act used to be not followed. “In the five-page record, we prompt the MoD to reopen the closed roads instantly.Four of them have already opened, offering a huge relief to the commuters,” a senior respectable mentioned.
