SECUNDERABAD: The viral video of a tea dealer mixing water in cans inside the Chennai Central-Hyderabad Charminar Express bathroom at Secunderabad station that despatched shock waves amongst other folks across the country lately, has compelled the ministry of railways to swing into motion and put in place measures to check the quality of food and drinks being served to coach passengers.
In the wake of an inquiry, P Sivaprasad, the contractor for the Secunderabad-Kazipet phase, who had appointed the vendor noticed in the video, was once slapped with a hefty penalty of Rs 1 lakh via the railways.
Now, officials have made up our minds to convey all catering agencies, roped in to serve food and drinks to passengers, beneath the lens of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation in different zones, together with SCR.
As the video spread panic amongst other folks on social media, the railway government have made up our minds to take stern measures to forestall such malpractice in future. The Corporation has made up our minds to press their team of workers into carrier at each stations and trains to stay tabs at the way food, tea or espresso are being ready for commuters.
IRCTC has adopted a nil tolerance policy to ensure protection of food offered on trains and platforms. The railway ministry has asked IRCTC to take stringent motion in opposition to the catering company if any malpractice is reported and proved after investigation, said railway sources.
