12 Roza Barracks set up in Sabarmati jail

AHMEDABAD: In the holy month of Ramzan, the Sabarmati Cental Jail — which homes round 3,000 inmates, together with convicts and under-trials — converts 12 of its barracks into ‘Roza Barracks’ for the ones watching the Ramzan speedy. About 45% of the prisoners on the detention center are Muslims.

Jail authorities said that the Muslim prisoners are equipped jail-cooked food at 3am in the Roza Barracks. The meal eaten prior to daybreak through Muslims right through Ramzan is named ‘sehri’. “Sehri is ready one after the other early in the morning and served with culmination, nuts, and different food pieces equipped through non-public trusts,” said deputy superintendent of police, Sabarmati Central Jail, V H Dindor. “The identical happens when the roza-observing inmates wreck speedy in the evening with iftar. We have given directions to the detention center group of workers to handle the timings of sehri and iftar. The food is ready in keeping with the detention center manual.”


Each of the 12 Roza Barracks homes about 40 to 50 Muslim inmates. “We set up a unique Roza Barrack for the women inmates,” Dindor said. “There are about 21 ladies prisoners, together with under-trials and convicts, who speedy right through Ramzan.”


“We have about 60 barracks akin to Circle Yard, Shanti Barrack, Hriday Barrack, Veer Bhagat Singh Barrack, Ashan Barrack, Sardar Barrack, Gandhi Barrack, and Mahila (ladies) Barrack,” Dindor said. “Even prisoners who are housed in the top security yard are equipped sehri and iftar from the Roza Barracks.”
