CHENNAI: Twenty life convicts had been released from central prisons in Chennai, Trichy and Cuddalore on Tuesday. The Tamil Nadu government has been freeing life convicts -- who've completed 10 years in prison – in batches to mark the start centenary of former leader minister MGR.
A total 1,753 prisoners had been selected for untimely unencumber. The first batch of 67 prisoners had been released from Puzhal Central Prison in Chennai on June 12. Subsequently, 68 prisoners had been released in the second one batch and 64 others within the 3rd batch from jails around the state.
On Tuesday, 11 inmates from Puzhal jail and nine others from Trichy and Cuddalore central prisons had been released.
The remaining prisoners will probably be released in different batches.
