4 of Mumbai family, friend drown at Konkan beach

MUMBAI: Four individuals of the D’Souza circle of relatives and a pal from Borivli’s IC colony drowned off a beach in Ratnagiri on Sunday.
The deceased have been known as Kenneth Masters (56) and the D’Souzas: Monica (44), Sanomi (22), Rechar (19) and Mathew (18). Kenneth’s spouse Leena (52) and Rita D’Souza (70), who have been a part of the crowd, didn't project into the ocean, stated officials.




The D’Souzas and the Masters are circle of relatives buddies. The group had long gone to Devrukh in Ratnagiri and made a halt at Aare-Ware beach on their option to Ganpatipule on Sunday.

Local police stated the deceased ventured into the ocean amid a thunderstorm regardless of warnings. The complete space was also power-less since Saturday.

Police stated the 5 have been trapped in a whirlpool on the intersection of the ocean and creek alongside the beach. The atypical phenomenon stalled the rescue teams for a while. The 5 bodies have been finally washed ashore via water currents.

Ratnagiri superintendent of police Pranaya Ashok stated, “The circle of relatives had made a shuttle to the beach. They had long gone swimming around 5pm. A whirlpool had shaped on the intersection of the creek and the ocean alongside the beach and so they have been trapped in it. The sea was treacherous with gusty winds and prime tide and it was also thundering.”

It was not really helpful for rescuers to project in, Ashok added.

Ratnagiri district civil surgeon Dr P Deokar stated, “The bodies have reached the civil health center for postmortem. We found no injuries on their bodies.” Dr Deokar added, “Relatives of the victims advised us that they have been making plans to construct a house on land bought in Devrukh, Ratnagiri. They have been going to Ganpatipule and stopped at Aare-Ware beach. The locals recommended them not to project into the ocean however they not noted their warning.”

Meanwhile, the quiet neighbourhood of IC Colony in Borivli west was jolted via the news of the tragedy. The priests of IC Church, local citizens and shopkeepers quickly put out word on WhatsApp groups of the locality, searching for main points and asking folks to hope for the departed souls.


Naresh Gadve lives in the same Silver Stone building as the Masters and has identified them for 14 years. “Our society secretary gained a choice from Kenneth’s spouse Leena informing her about the tragedy. Apparently the kids went into the water first. Then they unexpectedly misplaced their footing, and Kenneth went in to save them. Sadly, he misplaced his lifestyles within the procedure.” The couple had no youngsters, he added.


Neighbours stated that Kenneth had retired from paintings six months ago. The D’souza circle of relatives had moved from Megha building from Eksar village in Borivli to IC Colony three months ago after Monica’s husband Bento D’souza kicked the bucket three months ago because of cancer.


Rita D’souza will deliver the bodies again on Monday. Some family are anticipated to return from Australia, stated neighbours.
