MUMBAI: Bhaiyyu Maharaj began off as a model ahead of he became to spirituality and attracted lakhs of fans, including top politicians, in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Born on April 29, 1968, as Uday Sinh Deshmukh to a circle of relatives of landlords in Shujalpur in Madhya Pradesh, he modelled for a logo of clothes and took to spiritualism in his early thirties. He started to be referred to as ‘Rashtra Sant’ after he took 'diksha' from a sadhu at Shirdi Ashram in Nashik. He had a Mercedes and was closely associated with the late Vilasrao Deshmukh and BJP leaders Nitin Gadkari and the late Gopinath Munde. It was Vilasrao who were given him to persuade Anna Hazare to finish his fast in 2011.
The guru was known to work for water conservation and kids’s education however had kept away from the limelight for the past two years, regardless that no person knew he was depressed. “His unexpected exit is surprising,” Nitin Gadkari stated.
CM Devendra Fadnavis stated, “He set up Suryoday Parivar and undertook social welfare schemes in Vidarbha. He had taken up the reason for the downtrodden and economically weaker sections of society. In addition, he was instrumental in establishing mass marriages and introduced a movement for water conservation, as a result of which huge tracks of land have been brought underneath irrigation.”
State Congress chief Ashok Chavan stated, “The NGO set up by Bhaiyyu Maharaj had been operating relentlessly for the weaker sections.”
After a spurt in farmer suicides in Vidarbha, in particular in Akola and Yavatmal districts, Bhaiyyu Maharaj had drafted a plan for reinforcing the financial status of farmers. Following the gangrape and homicide of a minor girl in Kopardi in Ahmadnagar district, parents of women in the village made up our minds to not ship them to school fearing for his or her safety. The guru steered them no longer to do so and equipped for school buses equipped with CCTVs and safety guards for the ladies.
Bhaiyyu Maharaj’s first spouse Madhavi died in 2015. His daughter from the primary spouse, Kuhu, is 17. He married Dr Ayushi Sharma in April 2017.
