Sword of Honour for Jhajjar cadet

ROHTAK: Sachin Kumar Chahar, from Silani village in Haryana’s Jhajjar district used to be awarded the prestigious Sword of Honour at the Indian Military Academy’s passing out parade in Dehradun on Saturday.

After receiving the Sword of Honour, Cadet Adjutant Sachin Chahar said, “These four years have totally reworked me. I have transform more mature and now after receiving the Sword of Honour, it puts a lot more responsibility on me to serve the country to the most efficient of my abilities.”

Son of a havildar, the 23-yearold fulfilled his father’s dream of joining the Army as an officer. “I joined as sepoy and retired as a havildar. I wanted my son to enroll in the Army as an officer to serve the country,” Havildar Krishan Kumar Chahar (retired) told TOI.


The proud father said his son’s fulfillment had made him immensely proud. Sachin’s family, together with his folks, attended the passing out parade in Dehradun on Saturday.

We got goose bumps once we noticed Sachin receiving the coveted sword of honour at the ceremony,” said Krishan Kumar and his spouse Sheela Devi.


Sachin studied up to Class V at the village college and cleared the all-India front examination for each military and sainik faculties. “He chose to enroll in the Military School, Dholpur from Class VI and studied there till Class XII. He joined the NDAfive years ago,” he said. Sachin, in keeping with his father, is an all-rounder in game and teachers, however he likes to play football the most. The villagers are planning to welcome Sachin.
