GUWAHATI: The father of Nilotpal Das, who was lynched by way of a mob in Karbi Anglong at the side of his pal Abhijit Nath, stated on Tuesday he wants lifestyles imprisonment and no longer capital punishment for his son's killers.
Talking to the media, Gopal Chandra Das stated: "They should be punished with life imprisonment. A death penalty gets over quickly and they would not get a feel of the brunt of punishment. They should be given life term in jail without any sort of luxury in their food as prescribed in the jail manual. They should be given just the amount of food enough to keep them alive."
Casting aspersions at the police probe, Das stated police had refused to simply accept his FIR by way of announcing Abhijit's father has already filed one and a 2d one in the similar case wasn't essential. "I have come to know that police have set up a special investigation team. I hope the probe is fast-tracked. When I went to submit an FIR at Dokmoka police station (the site of the lynching), police refused to accept my FIR. When the education minister, who has been an eminent advocate, came to my house on Tuesday, he told me police cannot refuse my FIR and there can be multiple FIRs in one case," stated Das, a former auditor with Indian Railways.
Taking exception to the statement of the Karbi Anglong DC that the youths should no longer have long gone to the picnic spot without informing the police, Das stated: "If the place was not safe to travel to, as claimed by the commissioner, the administration should have put up an alert, some sign or check gates."
Das and his wife have appealed to other people not to fall prey to fake information. A rumour on social media that two child-lifters have been at the pro-wl resulted within the killing of Nilopal and Abhijit in Karbi Anglong on Friday. A mob of round 250 villagers had ghareoed and lynched them.
