Puri seer for probe into missing treasury keys

BHUBANESWAR: The Puri Shankaracharya, Swami Nischalananda Saraswati, on Sunday sought a thorough probe into the cases that led to the disappearance of the keys of the Jagannath Temple's interior treasury.

The treasury of the world-famous shrine has two chambers - interior and outer. On April five, Puri collector Aravind Agarwal published that the district management didn't possess the keys to the interior treasury. This came a day after a 16-member workforce of mavens desisted from opening the shrine's locked interior treasury to conduct a structural evaluation. The interior treasury used to be closing opened in 1985.

"I am shocked that the keys of the inner treasury are missing. How did this happen? A thorough probe is needed," the Shankaracharya informed the media in Puri. As consistent with the written mins of a contemporary assembly of the temple managing committee, Puri king Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb also expressed shock over the missing keys.

Political events have also became the warmth on the state executive for its alleged negligence in opposition to the improvement of the temple. Congress state president Niranjan Patnaik, who called on the Puri Shankaracharya on Sunday, mentioned the BJD executive used to be handling temple affairs very inefficiently. "Neither the temple administration, nor the state government is committed towards ensuring the development of the temple," he mentioned.
