Tutitcorin: Experts team visits Sterlite plant

MADURAI: A crew of professionals entered the sealed Sterlite Copper plant in Tuticorin on Sunday night time within the wake of stories that there used to be a suspected chemical leak in a storage unit, mentioned district collector Sandeep Nanduri.

Speaking to newshounds in Tuticorin on Sunday night time, the collector mentioned a crew of professionals were constituted to check up on the plant at the orders of Tamil Nadu leader minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. The professionals crew used to be led through a sub-collector and included an administrative engineer from the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB), the district hearth officer, the inspector of factories, income officials and police team of workers.


The crew inspected the plant and chemicals and acids saved there. They inspected the world the place the leakage used to be detected. “Action would be taken on how you can take care of the leakage, in keeping with the document of the expert crew,” he collector mentioned.


He mentioned that there used to be no reason to panic. There used to be no fuel leakage, he clarified.


The collector mentioned the Sterlite plant were sealed as in keeping with the federal government order of May 28. Licence of the plant had expired even before that and the TNPCB had no longer renewed it, he mentioned. “Now, the plant is 100% closed and the electricity and water provide to the plant have been disconnected,” he mentioned.
