UP state corporation bus runs over 6 students on Lucknow e-way

KANPUR: Six Basic Training Certificate (BTC) students, they all elderly between 22 to 24 years, and their instructor were killed while 3 were injured significantly after being run over by a State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) bus at the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Taalgram space of Kannauj on Monday morning.


The driver of the bus, who controlled to flee from the spot after the accident, was once later arrested and despatched to jail.


Chief minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences and announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh every for the family of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.


The deceased have been known as Mahesh Kumar Gupta, Mithilesh Kumar, Abhay Pratap Singh, Nikhilesh, Vishal Kumar, Jitendra Kumar Yadav and Satish, all from Prabha Devi Mahavidhyalaya, Khalilabad, and their instructor Vijay Kumar.


Police said the scholars and their lecturers, who were on an academic tour to Haridwar-Rishikesh, were standing by the roadside after their bus ran out of diesel, when the speeding bus coming from wrong way ran over them.
