Cauvery: DMK, CPM urge TN govt to act swiftly

CHENNAI: The DMK and the CPM on Sunday demanded that Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi Okay Palaniswami act swiftly to thwart the attempts of political events in Karnataka to “disable” the newly shaped Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC).
They condemned the verdict arrived at an all-party meeting in Karnataka on Saturday to deactivate the functioning of the authority.

At the all-party meeting, Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy in conjunction with leaders of its alliance events and opposition leaders, together with the BJP, unanimously made up our minds to means the Supreme courtroom in search of explanation over the CWMA and usher in some adjustments within the CWRC.

DMK working president M Okay Stalin tweeted urging the Tamil Nadu chief minister to act swiftly and facilitate the MPs from the state to satisfy Prime Minister Narendra Modi and plead with him to put in force the SC’s order on the Cauvery water dispute without any deviation.

Echoing the similar, state basic secretary of the CPM Okay Balakrishnan mentioned the all-party meeting in Karnataka used to be aimed toward disabling the CWMA and the CWRC. “It is condemnable,” he mentioned in a remark.


Balakrishnan advised the Centre and the state executive to take suitable action to prevent the Karnataka executive’s move to stall the functioning of the CWMA and the CWRC. “The chief minister (Edappadi Okay Palaniswami) will have to take efforts to facilitate a gathering of the representatives of the entire events from the state with the Prime Minister and constitute the problem,” he mentioned within the remark.


The authority would have started functioning via now had the BJP executive now not behind schedule in executing the SC’s order, he added.


Calling the verdict arrived at all-party meeting used to be a “catastrophe” that may smash the livelihood of the people in Tamil Nadu, he stated that the SC passed the overall verdict on May 18 to constitute the CWMA and the CWRC after decades-old felony fight. However, the Karnataka executive used to be enjoying its old trick to “delay and stalemate it.”
