Delhi: Cops save fleeing criminals from drowning

NEW DELHI: Cops chasing three armed robbers become their rescuers after the 2 of them, in a bid to outrun the sleuths, jumped into the Najafgarh drain and started drowning. The three boys had stopped an e-rickshaw and robbed it at knifepoint from outdoor a housing society in Dwarka Sector 19.

According to DCP (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse, two of the accused have been identified as Amir and Bijender whilst the 3rd, a juvenile, has been despatched to a correction house.

The incident took place on Wednesday when an e-rickshaw driving force used to be going to Dwarka Sector 19. He used to be stopped through three males who asked to be taken to Dhulsiras village. As they started travelling, some of the accused pulled out a knife and threatened to hurt the driving force. The accused males then took the driving force’s money and advised him to get off the vehicle.

As the boys fled, the rickshaw driving force informed the police officers and a PCR message used to be circulated in the house. Teams stationed within reach have been alerted and the colour of the accused’s t-shirts used to be relayed to them.

A police van spotted the e-rickshaw and started chasing it. Passersby, who saw the chase, also joined in and started following the e-rickshaw. Panicking, the robbers took a swift flip and started using towards Najafgarh drain.


As the team, led through ACP (Dwarka) Rajender Singh drew nearer, Amir and the juvenile jumped from the shifting e-rickshaw into the drain even as their 3rd associate drove away with the vehicle. The police team stopped following the e-rickshaw and as a substitute went down the forested trail in a bid to track the duo.


Cops spotted Amir trying to swim to the other side. But midway, he lost his energy and started drowning. Police, in the period in-between, alerted the fireplace department to get in their rescue teams. Realising that the boys might drown prior to any assist arrived, some of the police officers jumped in the drain and rescued the robber. The juvenile used to be later nabbed after a search operation, which lasted for greater than two hours.


Subsequently, police officers wondered the duo in regards to the 3rd associate who published his location. A team raided Bijender’s area and arrested him with the stolen e-rickshaw.
