Hyd: GHMC razes 1,024 structures in one day

HYDERABAD: In a crackdown in opposition to footpath encroachments, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Saturday razed 1,024 buildings across the city. Out of one,024 buildings, 822 were everlasting and semipermanent buildings, while 202 were movable buildings like pushcarts. The special power was once carried out via GHMC’s directorate of Enforcement Vigilance & Disaster Management.

On Wednesday, the civic body had pulled down footpath encroachments on Moti Nagar Hanuman temple to Borabanda Borabanda X Road stretch, Chaderghat to king koti stretch, the stretch connecting Paradise hotel to Minister Road, Secunderabad and Ranigunj to Rasoolpura Junction.

On Saturday, encroachments were also razed in Himayatnagar, Abids and Malakpet. The power was once carried out in coordination with police officers (site visitors and legislation and order). “We were given a positive response from other people about the power and we will pull down 4,133 known encroachments in three days,” stated Viswajit Kampati, director of Enforcement Vigilance & Disaster Management, GHMC.

While the bulldozers razed the buildings, GHMC staffers demolished the walls with hammers and pulled down the grills barricading the institutions. Meanwhile, tension prevailed at Yousufguda after Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leaders objected to demolition of stalls near Vijetha theatre in Borabanda. They were arrested via the police. In Malakpet, the distributors adverse the demolition, announcing it was once there only source of source of revenue.
