Safety audit for Mumbai bridges announced

MUMBAI: Railway minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday ordered protection audit of all of the 445 briges in suburban section after a portion of an Andheri overbridge collapsed leaving five people injured.
Goyal additionally introduced a praise of Rs five lakh for Chandrashekar Sawant, the motorman who prevented a tragedy via applying emergency brakes prevent his train ahead of it will get on the subject of the particles of the fallen portion of Gokhale bridge at the tracks.

Goyal, who inspected the website online, has blamed the design flaw within the bridge for the mishap. The pedestrian section of the 40-year-old Gokhale bridge, which connects Andheri East to Andheri West collapsed at round 7.30am.


Goyal mentioned, “The joint protection audit of the bridges with the BMC can be done in six months. The audit of the present bridge used to be done in November 2017 and the bridge used to be found to be secure.”


The minister has introduced Rs one lakh compensation for each of the injured individuals.


Terming the incident as tragic and unlucky, Goyal ordered an inquiry via the commissioner of railway protection whose reported can be submitted in 15 days.


Meanwhile, restoration paintings is in full swing and Harbour Line hall used to be opened for traffic at 1.55pm. The rapid corridors and 5th one is anticipated to be opened via 7pm and the slow hall via mid-night.
