Seven years after girl’s death, brother held for honour killing in UP

KANPUR: Police have arrested one Jagdamba for murdering and burying the frame of his 23-year-old sister in his area and later disposing it off by means of cremating it at a city ghat seven years in the past, in a case of honour killing.

The crime was allegedly dedicated in 2011, in Om Purwa locality beneath Chakeri police station right here.


“However, the crime got here to gentle after Jagdamba was nabbed for killing a belongings broker Ranvijay Rajput, whose frame was recovered from his area on July 11, 2018,” said a police legitimate. Jagdamba had used an iron road to kill his sister Asha alias Dolly and buried her frame in his backyard. Later, within the year 2013, he once more dug up the frame and cremated it on the Batkeshwar Ghat.


On Thursday, after a tip-off, police turned up at Jagdamba’s area and dug up where to recover Asha’s belongings including her garments and bangles. Speaking to TOI, superintendent of police (East) Anurag Arya said, “We have arrested Jagdamba and an investigation is on into the matter. He along with his aide Chaman Prakash and one other had dedicated this crime. We have arrested Chaman and can arrest the 3rd accused soon.”


According to resources, Jagdamba’s mom and spouse tipped-off the police about the incident. Jagdamba confessed of murdering his sister. “She was on the mistaken monitor, which is the reason why I murdered her. I did it to protect my honour,” he said.


“My sister was 23 years old and was in courting with a person from the locality,” Jagdamba informed investigators.
