HN Ananth Kumar dies at 59: Things to know about the veteran leader

* He used to be born in a middle-class Brahmin family on July 22, 1959, in Bengaluru to Narayan Shastri, a railway employee, and Girija N Shastry. His early schooling began below the guidance of his mom who herself used to be a graduate.

* He used to be a graduate in Arts and Law. His adventure into public lifestyles began because of his affiliation with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a scholar organisation of the Sangh Pariwar, which he served in various capacities, together with the state secretary and the national secretary.

* Kumar had even demonstrated in opposition to the then Indira Gandhi govt's imposition of Emergency and had also got imprisoned for it for roughly 30 days.
