Coimbatore: Sending out a stern caution to the folks promoting marijuana to the coed neighborhood, town police commissioner Sumit Sharan on Thursday detained seven ganja peddlers below the Goondas Act.
The town police had previous shaped a special group led through sub-inspector Kandasamy to curb smuggling of ganja into the district from other districts inside the state and the neighbouring states. According to them, ganja peddlers mainly target school scholars and teenagers in Peelamedu and surrounding spaces.
During a automobile check on Codissia highway on October 29, the special group discovered seven folks smuggling 110kg ganja in a car and two motorcycles. The Peelamedu police registered a case against the seven based on their confessional observation that that they had smuggled the contraband into the town from Andhra Pradesh and so they have been making plans to sell them to university scholars. Preliminary investigation printed that 3 extra folks, identified as Sakthivel, Mujibur Rahman and Muthulakshmi, have been aiding the group to smuggle ganja into the town.
