Can Coimbatore be made earthquake-proof?

The ministry of earth sciences has selected Coimbatore for a seismic hazard evaluate learn about. Coimbatore comes below seismic zone classification-III.
The learn about has commenced in the town on November 19, 2018, below the supervision of scientist Tamilarasan from the ministry of earth sciences.

“We have conducted soil checks at Vijay Nagar at Marudhamalai, Nalvar Nagar and Chinmaya Nagar at Vadavalli, VO Nagar at Vadavalli, PN Pudur Pirivu and Kanuvai. After the checks, we would recommend the federal government for the design of new construction codes. Based on the codes, buildings must be built in respective microzonation areas to withstand earthquakes,” Dr Mishra said.
