PATIALA: At least 150 citizens of Faridpur Gujran village here, about 8km from Rajpura on National Highway 44, fell sick after consuming food from a group kitchen organised to commemorate the sacrifices of sons of Guru Gobind Singh at Sirhind.
The villagers had cooked food for the group kitchen and submit two stalls- one within the village and the opposite on the NH 44. On the intervening evening of Monday and Tuesday, round seven citizens of the village had to be rushed to the civil health facility Rajpura with symptoms of food poisoning. Following this, six extra groups of villagers reached the health facility all the way through the evening and via Tuesday morning 60 persons were present process remedy for food poisoning on the health facility’s emergency ward.
Senior scientific officer Rajpura, Dr SD Singh mentioned the ones admitted on the health facility confirmed symptoms, like nausea and diarrhoea and got IV fluids together with some antibiotics. He mentioned the situation of a few had progressed and round 110 persons were discharged from the health facility via the night time, while 40 persons were still present process remedy. They were out of threat and responding well to medicine, Dr Singh mentioned.
District civil surgeon Dr Manjit Singh mentioned soon after the patients started coming to the health facility, health teams reached the village and persuaded the villagers to discontinue the group kitchen. He mentioned the teams took samples of food, packing containers and drinking water equipped in the village to determine the precise reason for illness.
He mentioned the district epidemiologist and different teams of the docs had been stationed in the village. The samples gathered from the village had been sent for exam and experiences were awaited, he added.
