Coimbatore: The Vadavalli police on Thursday arrested 3 undertakers from a burial ground at Veerakeralam for exhuming a body while digging a pit to bury some other one.
A police team from Vadavalli station, Perur taluk tahsildar Radhakrishnan, income inspector Yasmin and village administrative officer Kalaivani had visited where after native residents complained of a foul scent.
Preliminary inquiry published that Vellaiyammal of Veerakeralam had died on Saturday night and her family had approached R Karuppusamy and Murugesan, each from Veerakeralam and Manojkumar from Sundapalayam to bury the body. “The trio, who was once in an inebriated situation, dug a pit at the burial ground. They spotted a male’s body in the pit. They exhumed the body, which was once buried 20 days ago and buried Vellaiyammal’s body in the pit. They left the male’s body in the open,” a police officer stated. Based on the income inspector Yasmin’s complaint, Vadavalli police registered an FIR against the trio under phase 297 of the IPC and arrested them. They were let off on bail later. tnn
