Alcohol shortage sparks arson at New Year party

HYDERABAD: Revellers ran amok at a New Year Eve birthday party in IT hub Madhapur on Monday evening after organisers ran out of liquor. Some revellers set fireplace to the furnishings on the venue after the organisers fled the scene as they have been not able to deal with the angry crowd. Police officials later took into custody six folks, including three organisers.

U Media Entertainment Ltd and S Media Entertainment Ltd had jointly organised the development – Elite New Year Eve Party – at Yolo Arena cricket ground at Sidduvinayak Nagar on Monday evening. “We had given the organisers permission to host 1,000 folks, but they bought tickets to over 3,000 shoppers,” said DCP A Venkateswar Rao.


According to Madhapur inspector Y Nageshwar Rao, the organisers had priced the tickets at Rs 500, Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,500. Those with tickets price Rs 2,500 have been promised limitless liquor and meals.


‘Organisers booked for dishonest’


The tournament began around 9pm, but the managers ran out of liquor inside of an hour and left the venue after they realised they wouldn't have the ability to pacify their shoppers. The crowd went berserk and began hurling beer bottles on the DJ console. “They torched a settee set on the venue after dousing it with no matter liquor they could to find and in addition broken music equipment,” said inspector Y Nageshwar Rao.


On Tuesday, Madhapur police registered four instances against six organisers, including Kalyan Sunkari, Vihan and Krishna Goud together with the supplier of the music equipment. Three others have been booked on proceedings through shoppers. “The music equipment supplier claimed he suffered a loss of Rs 45 lakh, with some equipment broken and a few stolen. A buyer alleged that the organisers attacked him and hit him with a bottle when he questioned them about liquor scarcity. We have booked the accused for dishonest, prison breach of consider, mischief and inflicting damage to belongings and disobedience to an order lawfully promulgated through a public servant,” the inspector said.
