Think theatre and the first name that comes to thoughts is Vikash Khurana. Stagecraft, the theatre corporate found through him in 2003 has been persistently feeding city’s yearning for good high quality plays.
Khurana studied theatre underneath the tutelage of Satyadev Dubey in Mumbai. “But after I returned to Nagpur within the nineties there was a vacuum,” he says.

“A few of my pals then started to get together and we rehearsed some scripts and would perform strictly earlier than pals and kinfolk. And as many of my pals had been both Parsees or Christians the plays had been most commonly in English and had been performed on the auditorium of Tata Parsee School,” he provides.

As the word were given around and audience got here in, Khurana and his theatre staff started to charge a nominal amount of Rs10 as price tag charge. “That was the time when we started to look at theatre slightly extra seriously. Some of the plays produced through us had been in call for through colleges who sought after to stage them as fund raisers,” says Khurana.

Around the 12 months 2003, Khurana felt the want to formalize his working construction and stagecraft was formed. Today the 15-year-old theatre staff has staged 75 plays within the city and have travelled with many of their productions.

“Way again when we started with Stagecraft, the scene was dismal. Finding actors was difficult and parents had been weary of sending their daughters for rehearsals which generally happened within the evenings,” says the actor and director of many plays.


“But as the audience grew aspiring actors and administrators expressed a desire to join us. That was the time I started taking theatre workshops as many parents felt that doing theatre would assist in improving the persona of their ward and provides them the specified self belief,” says Khurana who can rightfully claim credit score for training more than 350 girls and boys as actors, writers and administrators.


Though Stagecraft was initially recognized for the English plays but lately quite a few in Hindi too have been coming from the gang. “If you ask me theatre has no language and in this city of which Mahesh Elkunchwar is a resident, Marathi theatre could be very advanced. In reality, the first Hindi play achieved through us was an adaptation of Elkunchwar’s Pratibimb. He gave me the Hindi translation achieved through Vasant Deo and in 1999 we for the first time organized five-day theatre pageant in Nagpur where five plays in 3 languages had been staged. That kind of set the tone,” Khurana provides.


With such a lot in the back of him, Khurana says he would now love to set new objectives. “The pondering caps are on. Our Adda has been a luck and now we have been staging plays very persistently. Now we want to do something different, perhaps present ourselves in a brand new avatar,” says city’s theatre guru.
