Sensex down over 150 points; Nifty below 10,900

NEW DELHI: Markets on Wednesday opened lower with the benchmark BSE Sensex falling over 150 points amid vulnerable international cues. Sensex fell 160 points or zero.44 in keeping with cent to 36,094 in early trade, while the wider NSE Nifty shed 35 points or zero.32 in keeping with cent to 10,875.

Tata Steel, Mahindra and Mahindra, Vedanta, ONGC, Tata Motors and Hero MotorCorp had been a few of the most sensible losers at the BSE index, falling as much as 2.07 in keeping with cent. On NSE, sub-indices Nifty Metal and Financial Services had been a few of the major losers, sliding as much as 1.33 in keeping with cent.


"Volatility is likely to continue in 2019 amid trade war worries, slowdown in global economy along with uncertainties related to crude oil prices, currency and upcoming general elections," Hemang Jani, head - advisory, Sharekhan by way of BNP Paribas, mentioned.


Asian shares turned tail at the first buying and selling day of the new 12 months as more disappointing financial knowledge from China darkened the temper and erased early good points in US stock futures.


Most bourses globally had been closed on Tuesday because of the New Year.
