Villager admitted to hospital, KFD suspected

SHIVAMOGGA: A 40-year-old guy in Aralagodu in Sagar taluk has been admitted to a sanatorium f ollowing suspicion that he is infected with the fatal Kyasanur wooded area disease(KFD). This is the third case of suspected KFD reported from the same gram panchayat within the final 15 days.

Lokaraj was first taken to McGaan District Hospital and later shifted to KMC Hospital in Manipal following top fever. His condition is said to be crucial. KFD special officer Dr Ravikumar said that the patient’s blood sample has been sent to a Bengaluru lab and the report is awaited.


Meanwhile, two rounds of vaccination has been administered to villagers in Aralagodu. It might be repeated after six months. “We have identified symptoms in 18 other folks and blood samples of ten were sent to Bengaluru. We have sufficient facilities to battle the fever,” the officer said.


Despite measures being taken through the well being division, KFD scare is spreading round Avinahalli and Hasirumakki villages on the banks of Sharavathi. The well being division is offering DMP repellent and malathion powder to kill bugs and mosquitoes. Last month two died in Aralagodu from suspected KFD fever, however the DHO denied it and said they were suffering from different illnesses and more than one complications.
