After Melghat, relocated villagers storm Navegaon tiger reserve

NAGPUR: In a repeat of the Melghat episode, over 200 relocated villagers together with kids and women, stormed Navegaon-Nagzira Tiger Reserve (NNTR) on Monday to protest against unfulfilled guarantees.

On Monday, the squatters marched towards Kokna gate of Navegaon, 130km from here, demanding revision of rehabilitation bundle which incorporates one-acre farm land, refund of Rs2 lakh deducted towards transportation and different charges from the Rs10 lakh in keeping with circle of relatives bundle, certificates of projected-affected persons (PAPs) to each individual in the circle of relatives and a host of different demands.

Divisional wooded area officer (DFO) of NNTR Uttam Sawant stated the demands don’t appear commensurate with law and hence tough to fulfil. “Around 375 households from Kawlewada, Zankargondi and Kalimati villages have been relocated to Shreerampur close to Saundad in 2013 underneath Option I (bundle of Rs10 lakh in keeping with grownup). This is the second one time when these villagers have entered the tiger reserve. Earlier, in June 2015, they had entered the park and began farming. They have been vacated by using force. Recently, the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court took a robust stand against Melghat squatters who damaged the reserve by surroundings it afire and attacking over 50 wooded area and police team of workers.


Fearing a repeat of the Melghat episode, the NNTR has deployed STPF and police force. Every activity of the villagers is being videographed and monitored via drone. “This is wooded area fireplace season and there is risk of folks surroundings wooded area on fireplace,” stated officers.
