Gold jewellery worth Rs 2.75 crore snatched from parcel service employee in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: Three unidentified men snatched eight kilograms of gold jewellery, price Rs 2.75 crore, from an employee of an air parcel service at Peelamedu here on Thursday morning after spraying chilli powder on him.


The incident came about when M Prithvi Singh, 26, was once riding on his two-wheeler from his office at the Mill Road to the airport around 5:30am, carrying the gold ornaments. The ornaments, belonging to 15 other folks, were to be despatched to Mumbai.


According to the police, 3 men dressed in helmets intercepted Prithvi when he neared Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles and Management. They sprayed chilli powder on him and snatched his bag containing the gold jewellery.


Based on his criticism, the Peelamedu police registered a case. Five special groups have been formed to investigate the case.
