Gujarat: Gambling den near police HQ busted

AHMEDABAD: Sleuths of the tracking cellular under DGP Shivanand Jha raided a gambling den situated just next to city police headquarters in Shahibaug on Wednesday night time. Eight individuals, including a cop posted on the HQ were arrested, police said on Thursday.


“We recovered seven cellphones, Rs 20,000 money and two cars from the spot, together price Rs 1.68 lakh,” said a senior police respectable.


Busting police claims of strict vigilance on bootleggers and gambling dens, a gambling den thriving under police officers’ nostril, is egg on their face.


The arrested are Dipak alias Dipu Patil (36) — the cop — Majidkhan Pathan, Vishal Vaghela (20), Nilesh Chavda, Ajay Dantani (24), Manohar Bhagul (46), Alpesh Chauhan (28) and Vijay Parmar. Jha said six of the accused are residents of the police lines just beside the HQ. “We are grilling them in regards to the operation of the den and whether Patil was operating it,” said Jha.


JCP Vipul Agarwal said the website online raided was an open plot just beside the HQ. “The accused are both policemen or line boys. We have initiated motion towards probably the most policemen involved and would possibly suspend him, pending inquiry,” Agarwal said.
