Jinaraj stole identity of friend who sheltered him

AHMEDABAD: After successfully evading police for a minimum of 15 years, an accused gets trapped in his own recreation of changed identities. Tarun Jinaraj, now 42, who allegedly murdered his wife Sajni Nair (23) on Valentine’s Day in 2003, was in November 2011 accused of dishonest in an FIR filed through his friend, Pravin Bhateley, who alleged that Jinaraj had adopted his id to evade arrest.

An official investigating the case said that Bhateley, a physical coaching trainer in Bhopal, had filed a grievance of dishonest, forgery and developing forged paperwork in opposition to Jinaraj at TT Nagar police station in Bhopal in November 2018. In his remark prior to the police, Bhateley said that he was neither acutely aware of Jinaraj’s offence nor his purpose at the back of the use of the stolen id.


Jinaraj allegedly murdered his wife at their house in Bopal. After strangling her, he cooked up a story about robbers breaking into their area and killing Sajni while stealing valuables. Jinaraj fled to Bhopal in April 2003, two months after the murder and began educating English at Bhateley’s place of work in Bhopal and likewise began the use of Bhateley’s id as his own.


Bhateley was Jinaraj’s senior at their BPEd faculty, and so Jinaraj discovered it conducive to cover at his place. He approached Bhateley announcing he was in dire need of a role.


Bhateley then requested him to teach English at his tuition elegance in Bhopal. Once employed, Jinaraj were given access to Bhateley’s paperwork and he scanned and emailed them to himself. Later, he escaped to Pune prior to settling down in Bangalore the place he started running with an IT firm, until his arrest in October 2018 through Ahmedabad police.
