MYSURU: After a lull on Sunday night, fires broke out in wallet of Bandipur tiger reserve on Monday, sending government into a tizzy. Ground operations controlled to extinguish the flames in Bandipur and Gopal Swamy Betta (GS Betta) levels after IAF sorties proved ineffective. No fresh fires had been sighted until late night.
While the situation was once brought under keep watch over on Sunday night, fires had been noticed in Mudumalai in Tamil Nadu, south of Bandipur, round 9am. The wind fanned the flames. By noon, they caught directly to wallet within the Bandipur vary, the southernmost part of the reserve.
Around the same time, further north, in GS Betta, remoted wallet had been discovered burning. Three of the fires had been noticed at the roadside, and two deep throughout the vary. Officials suspected legal components because the wallet were not contiguous. Nor had been there fires within the neighbourhood which could have been a cause. The fires had been put out temporarily. Until late night, hearth suppressants had been being sprayed to stop further blazes from the embers.
Following a nudge from CM HD Kumaraswamy, two IAF choppers pitched in with the firefighting. Taking off from Sulur air base, near Coimbatore, the choppers reached Bandipur round 2pm.
Fresh fires man-made, says legitimate
