Public libraries in Karnataka to use cloud technology

Mysuru: In a singular initiative, the department of public libraries will set up cloud-based virtual libraries to lend a hand around 10 lakh scholars in government prime schools and pre-university faculties within the state. Students can get entry to national and international publications at their institutions.
Apart from government schools and faculties, this technology can also be utilized in 26 city central libraries and 216 taluk libraries which come beneath the department.

The division had created the complicated Digital Rights Management (DRM) safe tool. A person or member who accesses documents via cloud technology cannot save, reproduction, delete, ship or print documents. She can to refer the document just for 15 days.

Department of Public Libraries director Satish Kumar S Hosamani said the venture is being initiated at a price of Rs 5 crore. Students from Class 1 to Class 12 can get entry to data in their school rooms. School and college heads will probably be given a person identity by which scholars can get entry to data.

“The division has digitised its books and documents in Haveri, Raichur, Chamarajanagar and Tumakuru district central public libraries with the strengthen of Kerala-based Sai Sanjeevini Trust freed from charge,” he said.

Hosamani said scholars can get entry to DSERT and NCERT books, competitive assessments books, previous years query papers freed from charge.


“There are problems in regards to copyright all the way through digitising. At a publishers’ meet at Kalaburagi not too long ago, all 101 writer-participants agreed to provide soft copies of their books for digitising and uploading to the cloud,” Hosamani said.


University of Mysore’s division of library and knowledge science chairperson Khaiser Jahan Begum advised IdealNews it’s a excellent initiative by which upkeep charge is low and cost-effective.


“Libraries will have to trade to stay pace with changing technology. In evolved international locations, libraries have adopted synthetic intelligence.
