PALANPUR: A quick-track court in Himmatnagar on Thursday sentenced a native of Bihar to 20 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a 14-month-old lady in Dhundhar village, the crime which had sparked a wave of assaults on Hindi-speaking migrants throughout Gujarat last 12 months.
Judge KB Gujarathi convicted Ravindra Soliya Saha, the 20-year-old labourer in a ceramic unit, who had preyed at the infant on September 28 last 12 months. Soliya used to be convicted for rape and other sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso).
On September 28, Ravindra, a labourer in Anupam Ceramics, had picked up the girl from outside the tea stall run through her grandparents. He took the girl at the pretext of taking part in together with her. However, he sexually assaulted the 14-month-old and dumped her in a near-by box. Soliya used to be a common visitor to the tea stall and knew the family smartly. Some folks discovered her crying in the box and rushed her to the health center. Dhundhar is round 17 km from Himmatnagar.
