4,956 accidents, 718 deaths on e-way in 5 years

AGRA: A total of 4,956 injuries, 718 deaths and 7,671 severe injuries were recorded at the Yamuna Expressway between August 2012 to March 31, 2018, revealed an RTI reply.

The alarming number of fatal street injuries at the Yamuna Expressway has brought about widespread fear, calling for effective intervention of the Central and State govt agencies.

Information culled out by RTI activist and Supreme Court attorney KC Jain revealed that 718 deaths due to fatal injuries were recorded at the Expressway, the number of significantly injured was similarly alarming at over 7,671.

Speaking to IANS, Jain stated, "We have written to govt agencies to take effective steps to curb the risk of speed riding but our pleas have fallen on deaf years.

"An independent company must monitor movement at the Expressway and must apply up data gained from the Jaypee Infotech about speed violations. We have written to the UP leader minister about this."

Since January, more than 130 injuries have taken place at the Expressway that claimed over 50 lives.

Drivers not handiest violate speed limits but force with out dressed in helmets and seat belts, Jain stated.

Between August 2012 to March 2018, 2.33 crore automobiles violated speed limits, data supplied by computerized surveillance units and quantity plate readers installed at more than a few issues showed, he claimed.


"But violaters are not booked and are allowed to move scot free."


Data to be had from the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) revealed that 23.42 per cent injuries were brought about due to over speeding while 12 per cent injuries due to tyre bursting.


Meanwhile, chairman of Vedic Sutram, Pramod Gautam pointed out flaws in the Vaastu design of the Yamuna Expressway.


"Yamuna flows south of the Expressway which pulls negative energy. The original Agra-Delhi national freeway which is north of Yamuna river is absolute best and secure."
