Bangalore Traffic Police resumes drive to tow away abandoned cars, 198 cars impounded in previous couple of days
Operation Khataara is again. The marketing campaign used to be started by way of Bangalore Mirror in November 2018 to attract the eye of the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) towards abandoned cars. Soon after the beginning of the marketing campaign, the BTP had seized many cars and the Deputy CM had lauded BM’s efforts.
In the last few days, BTP has started towing awaykhataara cars again. About 198 khataara (broken and decrepit ) cars have been towed clear of other parts of the town, and the police say that this drive will move on until Bengaluru is rid of all khataara cars.
Says Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Harishekaran P, who has given directions to the visitors police to tow away abandoned cars, “This has been a big fear. Vehicles are left abandoned on roads for days together. The visitors police are setting up all efforts to test on such cars and thus far 198 cars have been towed. It is also the very first time the place the automobile house owners are given notice and time to test on their cars and respond. If we don't get any reply from them, then the automobile is towed.”
After 15 days, automobile house owners can claim their automobile by way of going to the police station and paying a fine of Rs 1100.
Find the owner
When BTP finds a automobile in a just right situation parked in a place for many days, they send the automobile’s registration numbers to the RTO to get the name and cope with of the owner. After this, a notice is shipped to the owner. When cars that are present in a foul situation, lined with mud and leaves, and haven't any number plates, the police impound them. “We have found cars which appear to be they've been abandoned for many months. Many do not need number plates. These are towed away immediately. With such cars, it's difficult to track the owner,” said the visitors police inspector of Malleshwaram Traffic Police Station.
Harishekaran also identified that the BTP used to be giving first precedence to towing away abandoned cars which have been a hindrance to the graceful float of visitors. “A lot of abandoned cars create visitors congestions. We have already got congested roads and we don’t want those khataara cars so as to add to it. For now, the key issues are industrial spaces, marketplace puts, spiritual puts and crowded public puts and visitors police have been informed to consider those as precedence. In such puts, no longer only abandoned cars however even cars that are parked on footpaths and on the wrong facet are towed away immediately,” said Harishekaran.
In Byatarayanpura visitors police station limits, thus far, 26 cars have been known as abandoned. Out of those, 16 house owners had been known and notices had been sent to them. Of them, only four house owners paid up the fines and took their cars. The remaining cars had been impounded. “The cars have been towed from localities like Nagarbhavi ring street, Hosakerehalli, Sky Line Apartment, ITI structure street, Kavika Junction, Byraveshwara nagar. These had been creating visitors problems to other motorists,” said Byatarayanpura visitors police inspector.
Similarly in Rajajinagar visitors police station limits, 26 cars had been known as abandoned, out of which 11 cars had been issued notices, and the others had been towed away. “We have been given orders to carry out the drive and we are doing it. The house may be very giant and three police stations come under our limits. We are checking on more such cars. Many instances, we get lawsuits on Twitter about abandoned cars,” said a police inspector from Rajajinagar.
In Malleshwaram visitors police station limits, 35 cars had been known as abandoned and only five house owners have since claimed their cars. In Kamakshipalya visitors police station limits, 20 cars had been known as abandoned, out of which 10 house owners paid fine and took away their cars.
When house owners don’t turn up for a long time or the automobile proprietor can’t be known, the BTP will write to the courtroom to do so and after this, the cars are put up for auctioning.
