Chandigarh: Liquor vend auctioned for Rs 10.8cr

CHANDIGARH: A liquor vend at Dhanas village went for whopping Rs 10.78 crore towards the reserve value of Rs 6.50 crore in an auction performed via the UT Excise and Taxation Department on Wednesday.

It was the highest ever bid for a liquor vend in Chandigarh. Earlier in 2017, a liquor vend in Sector 42 had fetched the highest bid quantity of Rs nine.51 crore, towards the reserve value of Rs four.46 crore. Last 12 months, the highest bid was made for a liquor vend at Raipur Khurd for Rs 6.60 crore towards the reserve value of Rs 2.five crore.

The UT Excise and Taxation department earned a revenue of Rs 343.63 crore from the auction of 81 liquor vends out of the entire 98 vends. The department had won 164 bids for 81 vends. There had been no takers for 17 vends. Last 12 months UT had earned Rs 266 crore. The auction was held at the Hotel Park view, Sector 24, on Wednesday.

The highest bid of Rs 10.78 crore for liquor vend at Dhanas village was made via Kamlesh Jha and company.

For the first time, there was e-auctioning of liquor vends in Chandigarh. The new excise coverage will come into effect from April 1.

The opening of e-tenders/ monetary bids came about in the presence of Mandip Singh Brar, Excise and Taxation commissioner-cum-deputy commissioner.


According to the excise coverage for 2019-20, launched on March eight, costs of premium brands of whisky are set to extend via 20 to 25% in Chandigarh. While the charges of beer and wine will remain unchanged and the costs of beer at microbreweries will cross down.
