Cops arrest two accused in 5-month-old murder case

Varanasi: The Chetganj police, on Monday, arrested two accused within the five-month-old case of store owner Satish Rai’s homicide.

Producing the arrested criminals ahead of journalists, SSP Anand Kulkarni mentioned that on a tip-off the Chetganj police raided a spot close to Sampurnanand Sanskrit University on Monday morning. Seeing the police, two youths tried to escape on a motorbike but the police foiled their bid and arrested them along with a pistol and are living cartridges.


The arrested criminals had been identified as Mahavir Agrahari of Badi Piyari locality and Krishnachandra Yadav alias Lalu of Chetganj. During initial interrogation, the duo confessed their involvement in killing Rai. Lalu mentioned that on October 6, 2018 he had gone to Rai’s store in Jagatganj house to get a photocopy of his Aadhar card. On getting a blurred reproduction he requested for another photostat. When Rai mentioned that it will not be possible to supply a clearer photocopy Lalu refused to pay him main to exchange of heated words. Lalu left the shop issuing threats of dire penalties to Rai.


Later, Lalu, along with Agrahari raided Rai’s store on October 25, 2018 evening and opened hearth on him. They fled on their bike after executing the crime. Rai died at divisional medical institution. Lalu and Agrahari had left the city after killing Rai and returned on Holi when they had been nabbed. Kulkarni mentioned that each the criminals have old legal history with police.
