Lok Sabha elections: Police form 14 squads to check illegal money trail

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state police have shaped special investigation teams to spot and save you illegal spending of money within the state during the Lok Sabha elections. There can be 14 such teams (one each and every in every district), and those squads will serve as below the DSP, Narcotic Cell.

The squads may have 15 individuals each and every, and the state police leader has already submitted a record with main points of the squads and steps initiated to the executive electoral officer (CEO), stated a release issued on Saturday.


The special squads can be in search of money and gold that individuals keep in their possession with out related paperwork. Already, the income tax department has shaped a special squad to keep a tab on spending of money or use of things worth more than Rs 10 lakh during the elections.


As per the report to the CEO submitted by way of the police, illegal money worth around Rs five.71 crore and five,799g of gold worth around Rs 1.73 crore have been seized in raids conducted from January till date. The money and gold were seized from Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts.


Besides, the state DGP is sending a day by day record on legislation and order within the state to the CEO, the release stated. As per the record, the police so far have seized 1,177 illegal guns and secured the custody of seven,898 licensed guns.


As many as 32 other people have been taken into preventive custody besides figuring out 1,648 other people around the state who're more likely to create issues. It has been decided to do so towards 381 among them. The CEO, in flip, has expressed pleasure over the steps initiated by way of the police, the release stated.
