PANAJI: Goa Congress president Girish Chodankar on Wednesday mentioned that the party had a strategic reason why for now not stating their candidates for the 2 Lok Sabha seats and for the 3 constituencies where byelections are going to be held on April 23. Chodankar also wondered the BJP for the prolong in pronouncing its candidates.
“Our candidates and the entirety is able, but we aren't stating it because of strategic reasons. We don’t know what sort of elections it's going to be. Will or not it's byelections or dissolution? Nobody is aware of and you'll be able to’t predict anything,” Chodankar mentioned, whilst speaking to TOI.
Congress is predicted to declare their Lok Sabha candidates via the top of this week, but consensus appears to be rising round Chodankar as the North Goa Congress candidate. The South Goa ticket could pass to former CM Francisco Sardinha, Mahila Congress president Pratima Coutinho or advocate Cleofato Almeida Coutinho.
“When the ruling party can't declare, why should we? This is a chess board and each transfer needs to be expected,” Chodankar mentioned.
According to the state Congress president, the chances of the legislative assembly being dissolved remained alive together with the potential of Goa governor Mridula Sinha recommending the assembly be stored in suspended animation.
“There is an apprehension of dissolution, there's a concern of suspended animation. Parrikar can do anything and I don’t suppose any allies have the guts to question him. Even the BJP can't,” Chodankar mentioned.
Chodankar felt that the prolong in pronouncing the BJP candidates for the North Goa and South Goa Parliament seats; and the Mandrem, Mapusa and Shiroda constituencies indicated that trouble was brewing in the BJP camp.
“They should have declared their candidates (for the bypolls). They have taken our MLAs, purchased them. What was their downside to declare their names?” Chodankar mentioned. “Our candidates for Parliament seats are able. BJP has two sitting MPs, why have they now not declared? The sitting MLAs are with them and they have got now not declared. But people question most effective us.”
