Mohan Delkar quits Cong, to fight as independent

SURAT: Mohan Delkar, Congress president of Dadra and Nagar Haveli (Union territory), resigned from the publish and in addition birthday celebration club on Tuesday. He has decided to contest as an independent from Dadra and Nagar Haveli seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Delkar informed IdealNews over phone from the Union territory that “I decided to surrender Congress as I would like full statehood for Dadra and Nagar Haveli. If Mizoram and Nagaland can be given statehood, why can’t Dadra and Nagar Haveli? A committee led through Venkaiah Naidu had in 2016 favoured grant of full statehood to Dadra and Nagar Haveli together with Daman and Diu. If I am elected MP, I will be able to call for statehood for Dadra and Nagar Haveli from the ruling birthday celebration for my support.”


Delkar said his supporters feel that he has a superb opportunity of profitable as an independent. Delkar said if he used to be elected, he's going to be sure unemployment allowance for the jobless youth, introduction of jobs for locals, jungle land to Adivasis, more powers to the elected frame amongst other issues.


Dadra and Nagar Haveli has around 2.5 lakh electorate. Though independent, Delkar could have an edge in a three-cornered combat as a result of his recognition amongst native people, professionals said.


Delkar used to be elected MP from Dadra Nagar Haveli seat in 2004.
